現年59歲的喬-佩里在Twitter上更新了這一消息，這兩位曾共同奮戰40年之久的音樂搭檔很可能將就此各奔東西。喬-佩里與史蒂夫-泰勒被媒體稱為『毒性兄弟(Toxic Twins)』。二人在樂隊的早期曾共同創作出搖滾樂歷史上的經典歌曲《Walk This Way》和《Love in an Elevator》，而他們在音樂上的合作也經常被拿來同滾石(Rolling Stone)樂隊的米克-雅格爾(Mick Jagger)和凱斯-理查茲(Keith Richards)相比較.

史密斯飛船樂隊曾在1979年時解散，當時佩里因為嚴重的藥物問題被迫退出樂隊。不久之後，另一名吉他手懷特福德也退出了樂隊。史密斯飛船在1984年以原班人馬重組，並在上世紀的90年代迎來了樂隊的第二波輝煌。不過樂隊自從2001年以來便沒有任何錄音室專輯發行，新專輯的檔期總是因為各種各樣的原因而被迫推遲。而樂隊成員的健康問題也令人擔憂，目前所有成員都有過手術經歷。

　　當喬-佩里將樂隊矛盾公開化的同時，泰勒仍就此事保持沉默。但是泰勒的女兒Mia本周卻為自己的父親進行了辯護。她表示：『他們都已經60歲了，就讓他們去做自己想做的事情ya！』而在維基百科的史密斯飛船樂隊介紹上，史蒂夫-泰勒已經被列為『前樂隊成員』
